Les processus diffèrent et dépendent de ton pays d’origine et de la durée de ton séjour.

Grants may be awarded by the French Community of Belgium as well as by the universities. There are also European Union grants and international grants. Finally, under certain conditions, foreign students may be eligible for social benefits granted by the institute of higher education.

There are several types of grants available from Flemish, Belgian and European authorities. You can find a selection below:

Flemish study grants

Foreign nationals can get study finance (grants) from the Flemish authorities. To be eligible you have to meet one of the following conditions:

  • You are residing in Belgium and your parents are EU-nationals working or having worked in Belgium (as an employee);
  • You have been granted a permanent residence permit for Belgium;
  • You are (child of) a candidate-refugee and your request for asylum has been declared admissible.

 

Furthermore, eligibility will be based on the social and financial conditions of the foreign national.

Postgraduate scholarships

Within the bilateral cultural cooperation between 25 countries and Flanders, the Flemish Community (Education Department) offers a limited number of postgraduate scholarships. To be eligible for such a scholarship the candidate has to be selected by the responsible home authority. Therefore, please contact the country's competent ministry in order to fulfil the necessary formalities.

The 25 countries are Bulgaria, Denmark, Germany, Egypt, Estonia, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, India, Israel, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Morocco, Mexico, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Quebec, Romania, Russian Federation, Slovak Republic, Czech Republic, P.R. of China and Switzerland.

Flemish Inter University Council (VLIR)

The VLIR issues grants for short training programmes called International Training Programme or for International Courses, which have the same curriculum as Flemish higher education programmes. These grants are issued in the framework of development cooperation.

The Belgian Development Cooperation

The study and training grants of the DGDC in Belgium are funded in the context of government-to-government cooperation agreements. Approximately 120 grants are issued each year. Priority will be given to studies or training in one of the development areas focused on by Belgium.

Royal Museum of Central Africa

The Royal Museum of Central Africa is also a research institute and offers training programmes. Applicants for grants must hold university degree.

Institute for Tropical Medicine

The Institute for Tropical Medicine offers a certain number of study grants to nationals from developing countries.

European Union

Nationals from ACP countries (Africa, Caribbean and Pacific regions) can, in the framework of the EU's development policies, apply for a grant from the European Union. The relevant forms should be obtained from the delegation of the European Union in the applicant's country.

Erasmus Mundus grants system

The Erasmus Mundus programme is a co-operation and mobility programme in the field of higher education which promotes the European Union as a centre of excellence in learning around the world. It supports European top-quality Masters Courses and enhances the visibility and attractiveness of European higher education in third countries. It also provides EU-funded scholarships for third country nationals participating in these Masters Courses, as well as scholarships for EU-nationals studying in third countries.

Scholarships only for students belonging to the selected universities

The students can apply through their own university to do a period of study in either Australia or in one of the EU Member States. Accordingly, the programme deals only with higher education institutions and not with individuals seeking information about study abroad or scholarship opportunities.

Marie Curie Actions

This programme falls under the EU's 7th Framework Programme promotes excellence in research training, mobility, and career development for researchers at all levels, both inside and outside the European Union. Find more about this program here.
